Christmas 2009

Mikey's Moments > Christmas 2009
Christmas normally has a habit of sneeking up on me and catching me totally unaware but this year it really caught me by surprise! By the week of Christmas it still felt as though it had no right to even be into December. Moving apartment did not help as it threw my schedule out and then our new IC chip came in at work which led to some very long days the week before Christmas...

So all in all I was not very well prepared this year - though of course I promise myself that I will do better next year! Everything withstanding it was still nice and relaxing. I had the kids for the weekend so our Christmas Day was on the 26th...

And here are the gifts patiently waiting to be opened...

Breakfast is over and everyone in the family in Wales is online and watching via the webcam so it's time to get on with the unwrapping!

The kids seemed also to be a bit lost this Christmas. In the end Carina did some online shopping, Anthony found one thing online and had some iTunes gift cards. James could not decide on anything so he just had money. I found some boxes and wrapped the gift cards and money in different size boxes to confuse them! Here James has a box with a very dangerous "Benjie" in it - hence the bars on the top! By the way - the $100 bill has Benjamin Franklin on it - hence Benjie.

Apparently the different boxes did cause some confusion - to Anthony this looks like a CD and not anything remotely like a gift card!

Anthony looks on to see what Carina has...

And James very carefully puts Benjie away in case he escapes...

More and more boxes open... More and more the wrapping paper mountain grows...

Carina puts a "New Moon" book bracelet on one of her more precious possessions...

Now who wouldn't be happy with a box of Mr Kiplings mince pies and Christmas cake?

I don't think Carina was drunk when she took this photo but the angle makes for an interesting composition...

Some of Carina's gifts - an Evanescence CD, a leather covered note book and the lovely necklace that she is wearing was a present from Aunty Gillian.

image

Uh-oh - Anthony caught me trying to get a candid shot of him...

James seems to be enjoying his second Christmas morning so far...

In the evening we had planned to meet up with Loren and Linda and take the trolley downtown to check out the lights at Christmas in the Park. The weekend forecast a little rain - Thursday and Friday were nice and sunny and today so far has not been too bad. But as we head out for the trolley station the rain starts and by the time we are downtown it is raining quite steadily!

image

We walk for a few minutes and then shelter by the food vendors for a while. I enjoy some tasty tamales, Anthony has some lumpia and James has a nice hot corn on the cob. By the time we are done we decide we are cold and wet enough and head back to a trolley station to go home - here's the group waiting on the platform...

Soon enough our trolley arrives and we head back home again. It was not exactly the evening we had planned but at least we got out and were able to enjoy some nice company.
